A Journey Begins

What is the Journey of Hope?

The Journey of Hope is a summer long bicycle ride organized through Push America, the national philanthropy of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity, covering 4,000 miles from San Francisco to Washington D.C. It reaches out through newspapers, radio, and television, civic groups and community leaders, reaching millions annually and bringing to the forefront the abilities of people with disabilities. The Journey annually raises over $500,000 and this year is composed of over 70 cyclists, each committed to raising at least $5,000.

Riding the South route this summer I will cross through California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, the Carolinas, and Virginia. The average ride will consist of around 75 miles but that is only the beginning of the day as cyclists engage the community and establish relationships with people with disabilities.

Firstly, I would like to take the opportunity to thank all the people who have so graciously and generously donated to make this once in a lifetime experience possible this summer. Thanks to your contributions I have been able to reach the minimum amount required to ride. For those who are hearing about this for the first time that doesn't mean that you still can't contribute to Push America throughout the summer. If you are interested in donating to this worthy cause information can be found at https://secure.pushamerica.org/events/profile.cfm?rID=1181677&ridecode=joh2010.

For a more detailed explanation of the ways in which Push America and the Journey of Hope enhance the lives of those with disabilities, and the students who are fortunate enough to interact with them, visit https://secure.pushamerica.org/events/profile.cfm?rID=1181677&ridecode=joh2010

I hope to update this blog frequently as I travel the Southern US with the experiences I encounter along the way as well as the pictures I manage to take. That's all for now, I will post again shortly.
